- What is electrolysis? Electrolysis is the science of permanent hair removal. A minute amount of energy is gently applied to the base of the hair follicle, permanently destroying the growth cells. It is currently the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal.
- Why should I choose electrolysis over other methods? Electrolysis is the only true permanent hair removal method recognized by the FDA. Unlike laser, which is often classified as 'hair reduction' and targets pigment (limiting it to dark hair and light skin), electrolysis works on all hair colors and skin types permanently.
- Does it hurt? Sensations vary by individual, but most describe it as a quick heat or stinging feeling. Modern computerized epilators have made treatments significantly more comfortable and faster than in the past. We can also adjust settings to maximize your comfort.
- How many treatments will I need? The number of sessions varies based on hair growth cycles, quantity, and individual factors like heredity or hormones. Since hair grows in cycles, multiple visits are required to treat hairs as they appear. A personalized plan will be designed during your consultation.
- Is it safe? Yes. We strictly follow the American Electrology Association's Infection Control Standards, adhering to CDC and OSHA recommendations. Sterile, disposable probes are used for every treatment.
- What areas can be treated? Virtually any area of the body can be treated, including the eyebrows, chin, upper & lower lip, jawline, underarms, breasts, abdomen, bikini line, legs, and back. Visit our Services page for details.
- How does it compare to laser? Laser is effective for hair reduction on large areas but is generally not permanent and requires high contrast between skin and hair. Electrolysis targets individual follicles and is 100% permanent for all hair colors (including white, red, and grey) and all skin tones. Read our detailed comparison guide for more.
- Are there side effects? Immediately following treatment, you may experience slight redness or swelling, which typically subsides quickly. We provide detailed post-treatment care instructions to ensure your skin heals beautifully.
- Can I have electrolysis while pregnant? Electrolysis is generally considered safe during pregnancy as it works locally on the skin. However, we always recommend consulting your physician before beginning treatment.
