- What is the Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society(CNHPS)? CNHPS (Compassionate Neighbours) is a registered charitable non-profit organization based in British Columbia. Operating since June 2017, the society is dedicated to providing social connections, emotional support, and community programming for older adults and caregivers of older adults to prevent social isolation and loneliness.
- What regions or communities does CNHPS serve? The society primarily services older adults and caregivers of older adults in the eastern Fraser Valley region of British Columbia, focusing on Chilliwack, Agassiz, and Hope.
- What types of services do they provide for seniors? CNHPS provides a variety of community programs designed to build social connections:
- Seniors Connect Café: A weekly gathering featuring social time and regular luncheons.
- Weekly Volunteer Connections: Matching isolated seniors with trained volunteers for regular telephone calls or one-on-one, in-person visits.
- Enhanced Social Meals & Luncheons: Enhanced social & nutritional support programs, learning nutritional education all through cooking together.
- Wellness & Movement: Social chair exercise sessions.
- Intergenerational Connections. - Is there a cost to participate in CNHPS programs? No. All services, social opportunities, and neighborly connection programs provided by Compassionate Neighbours are offered completely free of charge to ensure they are accessible to any senior who needs them.
- Do they offer support specifically for caregivers? Yes. CNHPS runs the Family and Friend Caregiver Support Program. This program offers weekly group support sessions, one-on-one peer support, and assistance navigating the healthcare system.
- How can someone register for a program or refer a senior? Individuals can self-refer, or family members, friends, and healthcare professionals can submit referrals. To register for programs like the Caregiver Support group or to request a volunteer match for a senior, you can reach out via their general enquiry line at 778-539-5102 or email admin@cnhps.org
- What are the requirements to volunteer with CNHPS? Volunteers play a massive role in visiting seniors and leading groups. To volunteer, individuals generally need to be 19 years of age or older, fluent in English, and reside within the service area (such as Chilliwack). Because volunteers work directly with a vulnerable population, they must also successfully complete a training session and obtain an RCMP security/criminal record clearance. We also welcome youth volunteers from the age of 15 to join for the group social activities.
- How can I apply to become a volunteer? If you are interested in giving your time to support local older adults, you can find more information on their onboarding process directly on their website or contact their Volunteer Coordinator directly at volunteer@cnhps.org.
- How is the society funded? As a registered charity, CNHPS relies on grants, corporate partnerships, community sponsorships, and public donations to hit its operational fundraising goals. They also host annual community fundraising events.
- How can I make a financial donation to support their work? Monetary donations of any size are deeply appreciated and directly fund the processing of referrals, scheduling activities, and organizing initial transportation for isolated older adults. E-transfers or donation inquiries can be directed through funds@cnhps.org.
